Shanelle & Tony|Real Weddings in Florida

Congratulations to Tony and Shanelle who got married on April 12, 2014. It was a perfect Saturday evening. The weather was absolutely beautiful. The ceremony was held outside of The FountainView Room at 5:30 in the evening. Guest were greeted with a drink station. The programs (a d.i.y project from the bride) were a two sided fan. One side with the program and the other side held their custom made monogram created by Ten23 Designs. The wedding party ascended from the staircase to the grassy area facing the pond and fountain. The bride was escorted by her two sons down the stairs where she met her father holding her bouquet.

The bride and her bridal party made the small square vases for the short centerpieces.

Their reception was an eclectic movie premiere in which Shanelle and Tony were the stars. As the wedding party was introduced, they got a chance to strike a pose on the red carpet. Guest later enjoyed having their picture taken on the red carpet.

A Trip Around The World Bridal Showcase Part I|Jacksonville Wedding Planner

On June 9th we had our first bridal show (#mohbridalshows). The theme was “A Trip Around the World”. I wanted to created a relaxed environment where brides can have hands on action with the vendors. Not only could they see first hand what they provide but would be able to ask questions they had about the services. Normally, you can’t do that at a regular bridal show, due to crowds and limited time. When guest arrived they received their passports and boarding passes and were greeted with yummy mimosas.5916_631369666876039_1481320193_n I love a good theme and wanted to create some simple tablescapes that represented each country. 8809_631369736876032_1765890249_n

We went with pink and black for our Paris table, very romantic and charming. Loving the tall centerpiece created by Divine Floral Designs. D3S_8697

The design concept for our Tuscany, Italy table was a warm cozy intimate dinner. The wooden chargers and chairs brought out the rustic look as well as the burlap runner… and what kicked it off and made it pop…the awesome portable fireplace and mantle created by Handmade Rentals.7161_631246556888350_620630960_n

Going back and forth.. this has got to be our favorite table… our polynesian inspired table was completed by the rattan chargers and bamboo chairs. 946675_631246613555011_1039088812_n

and last but not least our Madrid Spain.Black and red tablescape complete with red roses and swirl pattern on the overlay. D3S_8766

Years in Business: 8 years

How did you get started? I have my degree from Tufts University. I started my career in the hospitality industry working for several Hyatt Hotels in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. My hotel background has really helped when working with meeting planners and Brides. I also managed a showroom in the Miami Merchandise Mart for a Women’s clothing line. This gave me great experience on the wholesale and buying end of the business. Buying the flower shop in 2003 seemed like a natural transition, but I had no idea how much I still had to learn about owning my own business. We are still a work in progress.

Best advice you can give to a bride? Trust your vendors. Once you have made the decision of who to use let them guide you. Our floral designers are artists and they need to have the space to be creative. Give us your vision, but try not to micromanage, You will be thrilled with the outcome.

What has been your strangest request? We have made all kinds of things out of flowers—a turkey, a giraffe, a cigarette, a tennis court, a snowman and even a spaceship. We’ve also been asked for an all black flower arrangement and one with no heads on flowers arrangement, just the stalks

Do you work with an assistant? I have 2 amazing floral artists; Amy Dwarika and Lealia Joyner. They are truly the talent behind my business. They are the ones that make “fantasy a reality.”

What would you say is your style? My personal style is really a bit edgy. I like modern mixed with a bit of romance. I definitely like things to be outside the box.

Who is the person you most admire? My Father. He was handsome, successful and loved his family dearly. He also had a very corny sense of humor which several of us have inherited!
Who is the person that inspired you? I am inspired by several amazing women throughout history; Jackie Kennedy-Onasis, Julia Childs, Coco Chanel and Evita Perron. All of these women had incredible style and were able to build business empires on their own at a time when women were supposed to be in the background.

What is your proudest moment in your business? My proudest moment is right now! In this terrible economy for small businesses we are still here! I employ 3 amazing people full time and have many weddings on the books for 2011. Things are moving in a great direction.

Bridal DO’s

Bridal hairstyles are beautiful and elegant. Your hairstyle can complete your entire look. Up, down, curly, straight, finding the right hairstyle for you is very important. If you don’t have a regular stylist ask around. You do not want to do anything drastic to your hair  just prior to your wedding. There is nothing worse then waiting for your hair to grow back out because of a bad hair cut. If you are deciding to change your hair color, do it early.

Look for a hairstyle that compliments your face. If you decide to get hair extensions and never had them before, try it out before the day of your wedding to see how comfortable you are with wearing them. If you aren’t use to having hair in your face try it out, there is nothing more distracting then watching a bride trying to get hair out of her face during the vows.

10 Wedding Songs I Love

Over the years I have planned weddings, I have heard plenty of wedding songs. Old, new, weird and touching. The ones I have listed are my favorites and always tend to pull a tear or two. Music changes every day and you should choose a song that means something to you and your groom. I am sure you have seen the entertaining first dance songs all over the internet. Just remember, this is your wedding and have fun.

1. Your just too good to be true- Frank Voulli

2. The way you look tonight-Frank Sinatra

3. At last- Etta James

4. Unforgettable- Nat King Cole

5. Into the Mystic- Van Morrison

6. Your love amazes me- John Berry

7. Endless Love- Lionel Richie and Diana Ross

8.Spend my life with you- Eric Benet

9. Save the best for last- Vanessa Williams

10.Unchained Melody- Righteous Brothers

What’s your favorite wedding song? We would love to share them with future brides and grooms.

Real Weddings Sneak Peak: Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Jones

Our Wedding Wishes Contest Winners Bobby and Leilani were married on September 27th at the Queens Harbour. Everything turned out spectacular. I am sure it was hard for Bobby and Leilani, once they were notified that they had won the contest they were informed of the rules and stipulations. They were allowed to choose their colors, food choices, flavors of their cake, and tuxedo’s but everything else was a surprise. They did not get to see anything until the day of their wedding. Can you imagine…lesson here… trust your planner and your vendors. I chose an “Underwater Theme” based on the couples love of diving.

I would personally like to thank my vendor sponsors for helping make Leilani and Bobby’s dreams come true.

Its all about Ruby!

Guess what Ruby’s wedding was mentioned in Jacksonville’s Magazine. You remember Ruby don’t you. Our fun-loving bride that got married in March at the Jacksonville Zoo. Well this blog is dedicated to Ruby. I love planning a wedding where the bride is open to suggestions. I remember when I suggested the Jacksonville Zoo to her; her reaction was the same as anyone who hasn’t visited the zoo lately. Once we had our on-site tour she was sold. I gathered a great team for Ruby and together we created the fun and awesome wedding (It doesn’t hurt to have a great couple). Corinna Hoffman was the artistic force behind all the photographs from engagement to wedding and yes even trash the dress.
Ruby thank you for being you. I loved working with you! This is for you…

Ruby and Mikes wedding was featured on the Truly Engaging Blog. You can also find blogs about Ruby on Kelley’s Bloom Room blog and Corinna Hoffman Photography.

Choosing your wedding party

There are several factors to consider when you are choosing your wedding party. Yes, you are choosing your best friends and family members to be apart of one of the most memorable moments of your life, but you are also asking them to play a vital role with responsibilities and obligations. Will this person be supportive? Is this person reliable? Just as you are careful about the vendors you should be careful when selecting your bridal party.

Your wedding party has an understanding that there is a financial obligation involved. If you know your cousin does not have a job, unless you are planning on footing the bill, you shouldn’t ask them to be in the wedding. You should be clear on your expectations from the beginning. Don’t be unreasonable or too demanding. If you want everyone to have long hair for your wedding, be clear on “ASKING” that no one cuts their hair. If you state your vision in the beginning you will have less chance of being disappointed. And remember, no one likes a Bridezilla.
